Lately I’ve been thinking what it is abouta subject, that makes me wanna make a postabout it. I think it’s just some kind of attraction, a click, I have to feel. Actually, from some designs, photos, drawings and so on, I really do get butterflies, and I have to admit that it feels great to fall in love with great things every single day. But then again..what is it that makes me feel attracted to these things? So well, because I’ve got a very inquisitive personality, and because I always got the thirst to discover how things work, I tried to answer my own question.
My search for an answer seems to be an impossible operation. Although, that’s what I thought. Untill I discovered the beautiful photos from Sophie van der Perre and fell in love again. And then finally the answer started to dawn on me. What I saw in Sophies photos, was an incredible amount of dare. The pictures were unrestrained; she did not try to adjust it to ‘our present expectations’; her work came from the heart, and that’s why there was simply no need to adapt it. And what touched me the most, was the pureness in her photos. The realistic way of presenting a human being, a personality, but also a body. Because how much we like to see ourselves as a collection of personality traits, we simply can’t ignore the fact, that in some way we are all bodies too, or for the more rational people among us, we all do have bodies too. And those two things, who might often been seen separate, Sophie brings together perfectly. Body and mind in their most pure way. With a little rebellion ofcourse!

what I love of this photography is that is nature inspired. sometimes the locations, sometimes the poses or the styling…in any case it portraits a piece of earth and I simply appreciate it so much!

I appreciate your pictures as they depict the women without Photo Shop. In North America you can’t find an image of a woman that hasn’t been Photo Shopped in some way. Usually the women are made to have unrealistically large breasts and their proportions end up reduced by the editor. It’s very frustrating. I kind of believed the images were legitimate until it became public the magazines had been altering photos. I’m pleased to see I am not abnormal because I haven’t got a large bust! I’m a similar size to the women in the pictures. Natural is so refreshing! Is Photo Shop used in your country much? I think it needs to be eliminated altogether in North America! It’s like no pictures are real anymore here :(
Dip It Black said:
I defenitely understand what you mean. I think it’s a trend in North America to put ‘the perfect woman’ (big boobs, a big ass and a tiny waist) in magazines, and I have to say, I think in Italy too, but in Dutch fashion magazines the pure way of photographing and the less ‘busted’ girls are becoming more and more popular. Better for us them, because I’m not having a big bust too haha. The only thing that irritates me is that they are all very thin. I’m thin too, but that’s just how I am. Sometimes I wonder if every girl that has been showed in our fashion magazines, is a natural thin girl too, or is just starving herself to death. That’s why I love these photos too. Every body of every girl on her photos, looks like a healthy body to me. I think that’s what has so be the main point in fashion world. Beauty because of health.. But I think that’s just a step to far for now..

Claudia, I simply have to chip in here for a second. You are absolutely right about this tendency of showing unhealthily thin girls (in most cases certainly) in magazines et al. The ones with big boobs want smaller ones, the one with small ones want bigger ones, etc. etc. Nobody on this earth is perfect and I would like to see young girls/women like you advocating HEALTHY slimness, most of your Readers surely are in the 20/30 age group and hopefully some will listen to you. And afterall, “…beauty is in the eye of the beholder..” Thanks for letting me say my piece. Ciao, Carina
Dip It Black said:
That’s so true Carina. I think the pressure to be perfect is so high, that a lot of girls feel insecure about themselves nowadays. Ofcourse we all feel insecure sometimes, but I think it’s so important to be happy with yourself. Trying to get the best out of yourself and being happy and healthy. For me, yoga let me feel really contacted with my body and I can be so happy with my body gently following my mind then. Hope like you say everyone can appreciate themselves the way they are. And beauty defenitely is in the eye of the beholder.
Thanks for your comment Carina :). Always appreciate!

Good to hear your country has more sense than Canada and the U.S.A. have!. The women were healthy looking in the pictures, you’re right there, so I appreciated that too. I think most models are naturally thin but end up having to starve/eat less than they’d like to in order to fit into the designer’s clothes. It wouldn’t kill the fashion designers to make the clothes a bit bigger though, would it? Then the poor models wouldn’t have to under eat and be unhealthy.
