Sometimes you only have to see one design to fall in love with all the work of one designer. Yesterday this happened to me. I discovered an autumn/winter 2013 collection, which was based on our selves, our light side and our shadows, our dark sides. Besides this great idea, the designs were so textured, the materials were so unusual and the silhouettes were so breath-taking that there was only one possibility left for me: I fell in love.

The collection I fell in love with, was the collection of designer Craig Green, a Londen-based graduate from the prestigious Central Saint Martins. After graduating for his MA, he worked for designers like Walter von Beirendonck and Henrik Vibskov. When Craig gaining a lot of experience, he set up his own label: Craig Green.

De collectie waar ik verliefd op werd, is er een van de in Londen gevestigde oud Central Saint Martins leerling, Craig Green. Nadat Craig voor zijn MA slaagde, werkte hij voor ontwerpers als Walter von Beriendonck en Henrik Vibskov. Toen Craig vond dat hij genoeg ervaring had opgedaan, zette hij zijn eigen label op: Craig Green.

Craigs fundamental signature is a masculine one. He uses a lot of structure and unusual fabrics to complete his mens-wear designs and he loves to use materials in a different way. His designs are outstanding and daring. But in spite of that, Craig doesn’t create his designs for a particular public. From the moment he finished his designs it’s out of his hands who is going to wear his clothes. What Craig does know for sure, is that the person who is going to wear his designs, has to have a daring personality; not afraid to stand out and be different.

Craigs ontwerpen zijn erg mannelijk. Hij gebruikt veel structuur en ongewone materialen om zijn mannencollecties af te ronden en hij houdt ervan om materialen op een bijzondere manier te hergebruiken. Craigs ontwerpen zijn bijzonder en gewaagd. Desondanks creëert Craig zijn kleding niet voor een bepaald publiek. Wanneer hij zijn ontwerpen af heeft, is het uit zijn handen wie het zal gaan dragen. Wat Craig wel zeker weet is dat de persoon die zijn kleding zal gaan dragen, een durfal moet zijn; niet bang om op te vallen en anders te zijn.

Halina Mrozek – Cocooning

After a long and intensive ashtanga yoga teacher training-weekend, I like to search for and discover great art and fashion talents. For me, yoga is a work-out and meditation session and fashion and art are the sources of inspiration. So I’ve been thinking lately: why not integrate fashion/art and yoga? I already found my source of inspiration for tonights class. It’s the work of a Polish designer whos designs are extremely extraordinary and remarkable, while when they enfold the bodies of the models, the models and the designs radiate such a peacefullness and comfort. The designs are almost like a cocoon for caterpillars who are busy transforming themselves into butterflies, while they appear so calm and satisfied.

The designer I’m talking about is Halina Mrozek, a Polish designer who graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krokow in 2009. With her first collection, the collection she graduated with, Halina won the Medal of the Academy of Fine Arts. In that same year, Halina won the Creative Graduate Prize and in 2010 she won the first prize at the international fashion competition Off Fashion Kielce. Since then, Halina’s designs has been shown in almost every great event and every big city.

De ontwerpster waar ik het over heb is Halina Mrozek, een Poolse ontwerpster, afgestudeerd aan de Faculteit van Sculpturen aan de Academie van de Fijne Kunsten in Krakau in 2009. Voor haar eerste collectie, degene waarmee ze afstudeerde, werd Halina beloond met de Medal of the Academy of Fine Arts. In hetzelfde jaar won Halina de Creative Graduate Prize en in 2010 won ze de eerste prijs tijdens de internationale modecompetitie Off Fashion Kielce. Vanaf dat moment zijn Halina’s ontwerpen op vrijwel ieder groot event en in bijna iedere grote stad getoond.

Halina says she was always fascinated by all kinds of space interaction. She therefore concider her designs as sculpting. She loves how well she has to think about the human body in order to create such a body sculpture designs. Her sculptures are not the sculptures you may see when you visit a gallery. It’s not an indepent piece of art. It has to correlate with the human body to excite, to make sense.

Halina zegt dat ze altijd al geïnspireerd is geweest door allerlei vormen van ruimtelijke interactie. Het is dan ook daarom dat Halina haar ontwerpen ziet als een vorm van beeldhouwen. Ze is dol op het proces van diep nadenken over het menselijk lichaam om uberhaupt in staat te zijn om een ontwerp te maken. Haar sculpturen zijn namelijk niet de sculpturen die je ziet wanneer je een galerie bezoekt, haar sculpturen zijn geen onafhankelijke stukken. Om ook maar enigszins zinvol te zijn, laat staan een publiek te enthousiasmeren, moeten Halina’s stukken corresponderen met het menselijk lichaam; het moeilijkste en meest uitdagende deel van Halina’s baan.

 

And now you might be thinking: how is Claudia going to use Halina’s designs for her yoga class tonight? Well, the whole idea of cocooning, about being comfortable with yourself and your body while you might be in a great changing process, really grabbed my attention. In tonights class I wanna make people feel comfortable in their own body. The body is the cocoon, and while the Self might be changing, enriching itself or getting rid of unusefull feelings or thoughts, it’s the body you are living in at this moment, it’s the body you have to feel comfortable and relaxed in. Even when it’s a body you are working on, I want my students to feel comfortable with their own body in each posture we are going to do tonight. And isn’t that a feeling we want to experience every single moment in our lives?

En nu vraag je je misschien af: hoe gaat Claudia Halina’s ontwerpen gebruiken in haar yogales vanavond? Wel, het hele idee van een cocon, van het je gemakkelijk en comfortabel voelen met jezelf en in je eigen lichaam, terwijl je misschien wel juist in een enorm veranderingsproces zit, greep enorm mijn aandacht. In de klas van vanavond wil ik de aandacht dan ook richten op het je comfortabel leren voelen in je eigen lichaam. Het lichaam is de cocon, en terwijl je geest misschien aan het veranderen is, je jezelf aan het verrijken bent of je probeert onbruikbare gevoelens en gedachten opzij te zetten, is het wel het lichaam waar je het op dit moment mee moet doen. Het is het lichaam waar je je comfortabel en ontspannen in moet voelen. Zelfs wanneer het het lichaam is waar je op dit moment zo hard aan aan het werken bent, wil ik dat mijn leerlingen zich comfortabel voelen in elke houding die we vanavond zullen doen. En is dat niet een gevoel wat we eigenlijk elk moment van ons leven willen ervaren?

Chromate – Perfect Geometrical Designs

Never before I wrote about a webshop. I’m not the kind of girl that lend her blog for advertisal posts. But yesterday I found a webshop you just got to know!

Yesterday, after I had lunch with a good friend of mine to celebrate our single-Valentine, I got extreme stomach aches. They kept ruining everything I wanted to do during the day and when it was almost 12 o’clock in the evening and I still couldn’t sleep, after trying for three hours, because of the pain, I decided I could better search for a nice red herring. And so it went. I lighted some candles and I searched the web for new designs. After a while I landed on a website which recommended a few webshops. I viewed them and I actually didn’t like them at all, except for the last one! What a great webshop! I absolutely loved their geometrical designs and I can honestly say I liked, and today still like, every single design they sell.

Gisteren, nadat ik, om het single Valentijn-zijn te vieren, heerlijk had geluncht met een van mijn beste vriendinnen, kreeg ik enorme maagkrampen. Gedurende de hele dag bleven ze elk plan ruïneren en toen het inmiddels bijna 12 uur ‘s avonds was en ik na drie uur nog niet kon slapen van de pijn, besloot dat ik dan maar beter wat afleiding kon gaan zoeken. Ik deed een paar lichtjes aan en ik doorzocht het internet op nieuwe ontwerpen. Na een tijdje belandde ik op een website waar ze een aantal webshops aanraadden. Ik bekeek en ze en om eerlijk te zijn vond ik ze allemaal even verschrikkelijk, op de laatste na! Wat een geweldige webshop! Ik was direct verliefd op de geometrische ontwerpen en ik kan je eerlijk vertellen dat ik elk ontwerp geweldig vind!

Anne Bosman – Men, Let’s Dress Up Like Louis XIV!

High fashion, something for women? If it would be up to Anne Bosman, a young Dutch (instead of what you might think) male fashion designer, men should dress up like they did in the years that Louis XIV ruled over his kingdom. Anne consider men dress up way too modest nowadays. He doesn’t expect men to ride their bikes in his costumes, but it would be a great victory for Anne if men would dress up just as copious as women!

Anne began his fashion career with starting an education at ArtEZ, a famous Dutch art academy, in Arnhem. In the summer of 2011 he graduated cum laude and while showing his graduation-collection he was discovered by Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.
Margareta visited all the graduation shows of the best fashion educations of Europe. She went from Germany to Denmark and from Belgium to Holland choosing her favorites. All of Margareta’s favorites, five in each country, were selected for the H&M Design Award.
Anne won the H&M Design Award and the corresponding € 5.000,- in the Netherlands and was selected for the H&M European Design Award. Unfortunately Anne didn’t win that one, but he did win an award, chosen by the audience. That award included an internship at Christopher Kane; Anne was ecstatic!

Anne begon zijn modecarrière met het starten van een opleiding aan ArtEZ, een bekende Nederlandse kunstacademie, gevestigd in Arnhem. In de zomer van 2011 studeerde hij daar cum laude af en terwijl hij zijn afstudeercollectie toonde, werd Anne ontdekt door Margareta van den Bosch, creatief adviseuse voor H&M.
Margareta bezocht alle afstudeershows van de beste modeopleidingen in Europa. Zo bezocht Margareta Duitsland, Denemarken, België en Nederland. In elk land koos Margareta vijf favorieten uit, welke daarmee werden geselecteerd voor de H&M Design Award.
Anne won de Nederlandse H&M Design Award en de bijbehorende € 5.000,- en werd daarmee direct geselecteerd voor de Europese H&M Design Award. Jammergenoeg won Anne deze niet, maar hij won wel de publieksprijs! Deze prijs hield in dat Anne de kans kreeg om een stage te lopen bij prestigieus modeontwerper Christopher Kane; Anne was zielsgelukkig!

In the end-of-term report of the jury, including Esther Coppoolse, fashion director of ELLE Netherlands, Milou van Rossum, fashion director of NRC Handelsblad, famous fashion-illustrator Piet Paris and PR-manager Elke Kieft of H&M, was referred to Annes Kimono-like one-piece costumes and his architectural prints.
For his one-piece costumes Anne actually was inspired by old Asian leaders, who often wore kimono’s made out of a single piece of fabric. Anne tried to combine those onesies with the rich fashion of the leading years of Louis XIV, when men dressed up just as copious as women nowadays, and he integrated important buildings of our present time, which he spotted while travelling by train. You can see the perimeters of those buildings at the prints on his designs.

In het eindrapport van de jury, waaronder zich Esther Coppoolse, fashion director van Elle Nederland, Milou van Rossum, fashion director van NRC Handelsblad, beroemd mode-illustrator Piet Paris en PR-manager Elke Kieft van H&M bevonden, werd verwezen naar Annes Kimono-achtige kostuums en zijn architectonische prints.
Voor zijn onesies werd Anne inderdaad geïnspireerd door oude Aziatische leiders, welke vaak kimono’s droegen, gemaakt uit slechts één stuk stof. Anne probeerde deze onesies te combineren met de rijke modehistorie van de heersende jaren van Lodewijk XIV, de jaren waarin mannen zich net zo uitbundig, al dan niet uitbundiger, kleedden als/dan de vrouwen van tegenwoordig. Ook integreerde Anne belangrijke gebouwen in zijn ontwerpen, welke hij tegenkwam tijdens zijn ontelbare treinreizen. Je kunt de omtrekken van deze gebouwen terugzien in de prints op zijn ontwerpen.

Elvira ‘t Hart – From Drawing to Fashion

Her collections has been put up at exhibitions in cities, such as Berlin, Amsterdam and Eindhoven. Her work has been published at online fashion and art magazine Blend, she has been asked to participate with the ‘Secret Postcards’ of the Jan van Eyck Academy and she has been praisen by Vogue Italy for her innovative attempts to connect the technical world with the world of fashion and art. Enjoy the work of Dutch fashion designer and ‘raw artist’ Elvira ‘t Hart.

After studying for a year at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, Elvira ‘t Hart, 20 years old at the time, decided to start a design education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. It was in 2011 that she graduated there and was able to show her collection on the runway. Close to that runway the reporters of Blend Magazine were stationed. The same day they presented an article about Elvira on their Blog.

Nadat Elvira een jaar lang aan de Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerpen had gestudeerd, besloot ze op de leeftijd van twintig jaar terug te keren naar Amsterdam en daar aan de opleiding ‘Design’ te beginnen. In 2011 slaagde Elvira voor haar bachelor en kreeg ze de kans om haar collectie op de catwalk te presenteren. Vlak naast diezelfde catwalk hadden de journalisten van Blend Magazine zich gestationeerd. Nog diezelfde dag presenteerden zij een artikel over Elvira op hun blog.

It didn’t took long before Elvira got discovered by other magazines too. In may 2012 she gave an extended interview to Fashion Clash, where she told about her work, her techniques and her sources of inspiration.
It became clear that Elvira wasn’t an average designer. She did not sit in her atelier for days to draw her designs, in order to cut the fabrics and create a gorgeous piece of clothing. Elvira mostly sketch for fun. She makes drawings and when she watch them, sometimes months, later, she sometimes see fashion potential in them. That’s the moment when Elvira start to transform from an artist into a fashion designer.

Het duurde niet lang voordat Elvira ook door andere tijdschriften werd ontdekt. In mei 2012 gaf ze een uitgebreid interview aan Fashion Clash, waar ze vertelde over haar werk, haar technieken en haar inspiratiebronnen.
Het werd al snel duidelijk dat Elvira niet tot de groep ‘doorsnee ontwerpers’ behoorde. Ze zit niet dagenlang in haar atelier te werken aan haar tekeningen, om haar stoffen vervolgens te kunnen snijden en ze om te toveren in een prachtig kledingstuk. Elvira tekent voornamelijk voor haar plezier. Ze maakt tekeningen en wanneer zij ze, soms maanden later, weer ziet, beseft ze soms dat er modepotentieel in haar tekeningen schuilt. Dat is het moment waarop Elvira zichzelf transformeert van kunstenares naar mode-ontwerpster.

When making her clothes, Elvira uses very unusual techniques. She starts with a concept in 2D, which she turns into 3D. She uses different ways to do this; but she mostly uses drawings, which doesn’t necessarily have to be finished to be used, and then turn them into 3D-concepts. The end result and purpose of Elvira’s concept is that the piece of cloth should look like it has been drawn directly on the model. That’s the reason why Elvira’s prints often look like they have been sketched on the fabric.

Wanneer Elvira kleding maakt, gebruikt ze onconventionele technieken. Zo start Elvira met een concept in 2D, welke ze vervormt naar een concept in 3D. Elvira gebruikt hiervoor verschillende manieren, maar meestal gebruikt ze haar tekeningen, welke niet per se af hoeven te zijn om te worden gebruikt, en vormt deze vervolgens om in 3D-concepten. Het eindresultaat en het doel van Elvira’s concept is dat het kledingstuk er uit moet zien alsof het direct op het model is getekend. Dat is dan ook de reden waarom Elvira’s prints er meestal uitzien alsof ze met potlood zijn getekend op de stof.

Personal Post – Feeling fortunate and following passions

Missing

There are a few things in life I feel really fortunate about; having such a warm family and having the most amazing friends walking beside me. The last time I’ve been so busy with starting up my business that I haven’t see my friends that much. The last couple of days the feeling of missing them really bumps in. You can feel so happy with working on things and seeing the results; but still the most valuable things in life are friendship, family and love to me.
I’m a lucky bastard for having my family around me most of the time and I am lucky for them being so incredibly loveable. But the feeling of missing my dearest friends isn’t going away because of that. Luckily I know I will see a few of them on friday and sunday and I’m living my way up to the end of the week now. But there are also a few friends who lives far, far away. The friends that owns a huge part of my heart. I know I may sound like a pussy right now, but I truly feel it this way. Knowing that I can always call those friends is a big support to me and knowing that I will see them soon too.

Fashion designers duo Howitzweissbach mainly uses the thirth option and make their collection photoshoots very special ones. From bizarre model haircuts to a background made out of paper or big white boxes, Howitzweissbach has done it all! Liselotte Wijma – When passion guides you

People who follow their hearts and make unpopular decisions to reach the goal they are longing for, always gain my interest. It’s not that their ambitions are that big, but their passions are. Whatever they do and whatever they decide, at some point their passions again hit the surface. Their passions give them the drive to do whatever is necessary to fulfill the need to create, to act. It’s not about earning money. It’s not about becoming famous. It’s not about prestige. It’s about love.

Liselotte Wijma

From the moment Liselotte could hold a pencil, she painted, created and drawed and that passion proceed during high school. That is why it was an almost natural decision to go to art academy after high school. But art academy wasn’t the place Liselotte felt comfortable and soon she decided to quit. Maybe fashion and design at AMFI suited her better; after all she loved fashion too. But also fashion and design wasn’t the right education for Liselotte; again she quit.

Vanaf het moment dat Liselotte een potlood vast kon houden, tekende ze, schilderde ze en creëerde ze en deze passie overleefde de hectische tijd op de middelbare school. Het was daarom een bijna natuurlijke keuze om naar de kunstacademie te gaan. Maar de kunstacademie bleek een plek te zijn waar Liselotte zich niet comfortabel zou voelen en al snel besloot Liselotte te stoppen met haar opleiding. Misschien zou fashion en design aan de AMFI beter bij haar passen; tenslotte was ook mode een van haar grote passies. Maar ook mode en design bleek niet de juiste opleiding voor Liselotte te zijn; opnieuw stopte ze met haar opleiding.

It was then that Liselotte began feeling miserable. She felt confused; she missed drawing and painting, but all the studies she tried, didn’t make her happy. After a lot of thinking, Liselotte discovered that the actual solution was pretty easy. She loved drawing and she loved fashion. These were the things she had to make her work of. Liselotte decided to start her own business in creating all kind of things;
from fashion illustrations to drawings and art.

Daarna begon Liselotte zich rot te voelen. Ze voelde zich verward; ze miste het tekenen en schilderen, maar aan de andere kant maakten de studies, die ze had geprobeerd, haar niet gelukkig. Na veel te hebben nagedacht, kwam Liselotte tot de ontdekking dat de eigenlijke oplossing heel makkelijk was. Ze hield van tekenen en ze hield van mode. Dit waren de dingen waar ze haar werk van moest maken. Liselotte besloot haar eigen bedrijf te beginnen in het creëren van allerlei dingen; van mode-illustraties tot tekeningen en kunst.

From that moment on Liselotte took every creative opportunity that crossed her path. She made lots of fashion illustrations, she cooperated with photographers and drawed her drawings on their photos and she even started her own fashion label. Liselotte was on! She got more and more orders and her work even appeared in magazines like KULT magazine (DE), Rêve magazine (IT), Le vif (BE), PRESTAGE magazine, Metro, The Collector and Hoop Doop magazine.

Vanaf dat moment pakte Liselotte elke creatieve kans aan die op haar pad kwam. Ze maakte veel mode-illustraties, ze werkte samen met fotografen en tekende haar tekeningen op hun foto’s en ze startte zelfs haar eigen modelabel. Liselotte was op drift! Ze kreeg meer en meer opdrachten en haar werk verscheen zelfs in bladen als KULT magazine (DE), Rêve magazine (IT), Le vif (BE), PRESTAGE magazine, Metro, The Collector en Hoop Doop magazine.

The busy life, happiness and Arena Page!

Busy life

What a month, what a month, what a month… First, I’ve started Pure Yoga & More, my yoga business.  I’ve created a website for that, which is about to get launched. I’ve made businesscards, I’ve promoted myself, I’ve made membership cards, flyers, informative books, I’ve read lots of yoga books and I’ve created a teaching program. All for next monday, when I will start giving Ashtanga/Power Yoga lessons at our local health centre! But before I can enjoy the pleasure of teaching yoga to my students, I have to give a yoga lesson to all the physiotherapists in our health centre this evening; extremely exciting, and also extremely important. They are the ones who can redirect there patients to my lessons and they are the ones who have to acknowledge that my program is a healthy, beneficial and safe one.
But I’ve not only been busy with my yoga business this month. I’ve made lots of blog posts, I’ve been jumping around the house when I got thank you messages from some of the people I’ve written about, I’ve interviewed an extremely talented fashion designer and I’ve joined the show of Sepehr Maghsoudi at Amsterdam Fashion Week with photographer Vince!
And last but not least, I’ve been constantly busy looking for and visiting seminars at academic studies, because next september I want to start with a new study at University.

Wat een maand, wat een maand, wat een maand… Aan het begin van de maand heb ik mijn eigen bedrijfje, Pure Yoga & More opgericht. Daarna heb ik er een website voor gemaakt, welke klaar is om gelanceerd te worden. Ik ben extreem druk geweest met het maken van visitekaartjes, flyers, folders, strippenkaarten, het lezen van informatieve yogaboeken en het in elkaar zetten van lesprogramma’s. Dit alles om mijn eerste les, welke aanstaande maandag in het gezondheidscentrum in ons dorp zal plaatsvinden, tot een groot succes te maken. Maar voordat ik kan genieten van het lesgeven van mijn yogastudenten, zal ik vanavond eerst een yogales moeten verzorgen voor de fysiotherapeuten van het gezondheidscentrum; een extreem spannende, maar ook heel belangrijke gebeurtenis. Zij zijn het namelijk die mijn programma moeten beoordelen als gezondheidsbevorderend en veilig en zij zijn degenen die hun patiënten naar mij door kunnen verwijzen.
Maar ik was deze maand niet alleen druk met mijn yogabedrijfje, ik was ook erg druk met het maken van blog post, ik heb het hele huis doorgedanst toen ik bedankjes ontving van mensen waar ik over schreef, ik heb een extreem getalenteerde modeontwerpster geïnterviewd en ik ben samen met Vince naar de modeshow van Sepehr Maghsoudi geweest, tijdens de Amsterdam Fashion Week.
Als laatste was ik erg druk met het zoeken naar een studie en het bezoeken van open dagen en meeloopdagen. Komende september wil ik namelijk starten met een nieuwe studie.

Happiness in fashion and art

And because I’ve been so busy lately, I’ve starting thinking about spare time. I had to conclude that I fill my spare time with searching for and wondering about fashion and art. Actually, I’m always busy. The odd moments that my head is quiet, are the moments I fill with sleep, yoga or meditation. But I have no reason to complain. Because after a long day of work, when I press the power button of my laptop and gorgeous designs of young designers, beautiful collections of the more distinguished ones, interesting paintings, impressive photos and sculptures, appear on my screen, my mouth turns into a huge smile and I feel like a teenage girl in love.
And yesterday, after that long day of work, it happened again. I searched through the photographs I’ve filed on my laptop and discovered three photos of a fashion designer I was curious about. At the time I filed them, I could only find three designs, but again these three designs touched me so deep that I decided to continue my search to this designer. Her name is Arena Page.

En omdat ik de laatste tijd zo druk bezig ben geweest, begon ik me af te vragen wat ik eigenlijk in mijn vrije tijd doe. Ik moest concluderen dat ik mijn vrije tijd spendeer aan het zoeken naar en het me verwonderen over mode en kunst. De zeldzame momenten dat mijn hoofd rustig en leeg is, zijn de momenten dat ik ofwel slaap, ofwel mediteer ofwel aan yoga doe. Maar ik zie geen enkele reden om te klagen. Op het moment dat ik, na een drukke dag vol werk, de aanknop van mijn laptop indruk en er prachtige stukken van nieuwe ontwerpers, bijzondere collecties van de meer gerenommeerden, interessante schilderijen en indrukwekkende foto’s en sculpturen op mijn scherm verschijnen, verschijnt er namelijk ook een grote glimlach op mijn gezicht en voel ik me als een verliefd tienermeisje.
Ditzelfde overkwam mij ook gisteren. Ik bladerde door de mappen van de afbeeldingen die ik op mijn laptop had opgeslagen en kwam drie bijzondere foto’s van drie bijzondere ontwerpen tegen. In de tijd dat ik deze foto’s opsloeg, kon ik alleen deze drie ontwerpen vinden, maar gisteren raakten deze ontwerpen mij opnieuw zo diep, dat ik wel moest zoeken naar meer informatie over de ontwerper. En zo begon de zoektocht naar een jong talent. Haar naam is: Arena Page!

Arena Page

My search was a little dissappointing to me. There is no much information available about Arena. The only information I could find, was that she is a London based creative pattern cutter/designer in womenswear.
Arena studied at the University of Huddersfield, were she graduated with an honors degree in Fashion Design. After her bacherlor, Arena decided to go for a master in tailoring and experimental methods of cutting.
Arena’s first collection was the one who caught my eye. It is a combination between art, geometry and mathematics; a combination that I’ve never seen before. It’s been said that she found her inspiration for that collection in the study of Topology.
Arena’s collection is also an innovative one on other fields. Arena used a 3D modelling computer program to optimalize her designs. After using her 3D modelling computer program, she turned her designs into 2D patterns on paper. After that she turned them into 3D again, when she continued the process of designing on bodies. This whole process Arena didn’t get any help; she did it al by herself. An achievement I truely admire her for.

Mijn zoektocht naar meer informatie over Arena Page was een beetje teleurstellend voor me. Er was namelijk maar weinig informatie over deze jonge ontwerpster beschikbaar. Het enige wat ik over Arena kon vinden was het volgende.
Arena Page startte haar carrière aan de universiteit van Huddersfield, waar ze cum laude afstudeerde in de richting Fashion Design. Na haar bachelorgraad, besloot Arena te gaan voor een master, waarbij ze zich voornamelijk bezig hield met het maken van kleding en alternatieve manieren van snijden.
Arena’s eerste collectie was de collectie die mij direct in het oog sprong. Het is als ware een samensmelting van kunst, geometrie en wiskunde; een combinatie die ik nog niet eerder zag. Er wordt gezegd dat Arena de inspiratie voor deze collectie vond in de opleiding ‘topologie’.
Arena’s collectie is daarnaast ook nog in andere opzichten zeer innovatief. Arena gebruikte een 3D-modelleer programma om haar ontwerpen te maken. Daarna zette ze de ontwerpen op papier, om ze vervolgens weer in 3D te bewerken op het lichaam. Tijdens dit gehele proces kreeg Arena geen hulp. Een prestatie waar ik haar zeer om bewonder.

Sepehr Maghsoudi – Embrace Your Darkness

Almost a week ago I had one of the most memorable moments of my ‘blog career’. Mode’L Magazine gave me the chance to join the fashion show of young talent Sepehr Maghsoudi at the Amsterdam Fashion Week.

Full of enthousiasm and excitement, my photographer Vince and me, went on a few-hour journey to our capital city Amsterdam. With the navigation system on our phones only, we went searching for the right building and after a while we discovered that we were walking in rounds again and again. After a 20-minute walk we reached our final destination. After a little struggle at the entrence, because we were divided with the wrong names, we took the elevator, got our press-passes and we encroached us among all the other visitors. Soon, Sam van der Laan, Junior Chief & Production at Mode’L Magazine, noticed and guided us to two front-row places. Vince and I established ourselfs and we ran through the points we had to pay attention to. Vince took care of his camera’s and I grab my notebook so I could write down all the impressions I would get. And then the lights were dimmed, a man began to introduce the designer and lovely beach music began to play.. The show began!
